We all know we should be united, but the question is why should we? and why aren't we? They will be answered in this blog inshallah.

1. Why we should be united?

2:136

Say, ˹O believers,˺ “We believe in Allah and what has been revealed to us; and what was revealed to Abraham, Ishmael, Isaac, Jacob, and his descendants; and what was given to Moses, Jesus, and other prophets from their Lord. We make no distinction between any of them. And to Allah we all submit.”

"We believe" here the action is attributed to the entire Ummah

(as it appears in the plural form), which indicates that it is obligatory for the Ummah to hold fast, all together, to the rope o f Allah, and encourages them to be united so that their call will be one and their efforts will be united. This implies that the Ummah should not be divided and that the believers are like a single body.

Refrence-Tafsir as sadi

This order is not just limited to spiritual gain, but even modern psychology and sociology highlight the benefits of being united. Studies reveal that

Strong social bonds reduce stress, anxiety, and depression.

Apart from that, in the face of danger, we stand together and face the challenges that this world brings upon us.

But now the main question is...

2. Why aren't we united?

After reviewing all the evidence, we understand the importance of unity. Yet, despite this understanding, we fail to achieve it. Why?

The answer lies within ourselves.

Muslims who have conflicts(disunity) within their own homes due to their own wrongdoings, speak of Global unity.

We witness Muslims being tortured in different parts of the world—Palestinians, Kashmiris, Uyghurs, and others—while the entire world, (with only a few exceptions), remains silent, despite the existence of 57 Muslim countries.

Now imagine such atrocities occurring in your area. What would be the response of neighboring Muslim regions to your plight

An even more significant question is:

How would you respond to your neighbors & relatives when they face hardships?

3. How to promote unity?

21:92, Quran

إِنَّ هَـٰذِهِۦٓ أُمَّتُكُمْ أُمَّةًۭ وَٰحِدَةًۭ وَأَنَا۠ رَبُّكُمْ فَٱعْبُدُونِ ٩٢

Indeed, this religion of yours is ˹only˺ one, and I am your Lord, so worship Me ˹alone˺.

International Unity is the highest stage we are opting for, but it's not that simple. We need to break it down into smaller steps.

1. Start by fixing yourself:

Remove all sorts of malice and envy from your heart by getting closer to Allah and seeking His refuge. The aim is to purify yourself such that Allah helps you with His Rahimat.

2. Gradually increase the level:

After you have fixed (or at least you are giving your 100% effort to fix), the next step would be to unite family, then friends, then locality, city, state, and so on, one step at a time.

Uniting the Ummah is tough, but what's even tougher is the suffering that we all will face without it.

3. Striving with patience and perseverance:

You won't be able to achieve 100% result. You will be faced with forces of strong opposition, majorly from Muslims only. But what really matters is your effort. Leave the outcomes to Allah and be steadfast in your work. With patience & perseverance.

4. Modern & historical example

Even though we have been fragmented as a community, there is still hope to be united. In history and modern examples, there is light of hope to be seen

Ottoman Empire: Turkish Empire that controlled much of Southeast Europe, West Asia, North Africa from 14th to 20th century, was able to do so due to unity among Muslims of that time.

Hajj: One of the five pillars of Islam. Every year, 2 to 3 million Muslims from different geography, creed, origin come to Mecca for pilgrimage.

5. Conclusion

Unity among Muslims is not just a spiritual necessity but a practical solution to the challenges we face as an Ummah. It begins with self-purification, extends to fostering harmony within families and communities, and culminates in global solidarity. History, such as the Ottoman Empire, and modern practices like Hajj, showcase the strength of collective effort. Despite differences, the bond of faith unites us under one banner. By striving with patience, sincerity, and reliance on Allah, we can overcome divisions. Let us act today to strengthen our Ummah, for unity is not just our strength—it is our survival and success.

 اللهم مُصَرِّفَ الْقُلُوْبِ صَرِّفْ قُلُوْبَنَا عَلَى طَاعتِكَ

O Allah! Controller of the hearts, direct our hearts to Your obedience

Ameen.
