Women: A Fitna for ummah?

Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) said:
"There is no greater fitna (trial/temptation) for my Ummah (community) after me than women."
(Sunan Ibn Majah - No. 3988)
When we hear this hadith, we might think that all women are a fitna, but that is not the case.
Which Women Are Considered a Fitna?
This hadith does not refer to women who :
- Follow Allah’s commandments
- Obey Allah and His Messenger
- Dedicate themselves to Allah
- Are obedient to their husbands and parents
- Stay at home
- Observe hijab
- Give charity sincerely.
Who Are the Women Referred to as Fitna?
This hadith points toward women who disobey Allah and His Messenger.
These are the women who:
- Disobey Allah and His Messenger ﷺ.
- Roam outside unnecessarily.
- Display their adornments.
- Do not observe hijab.
- Spread mischief in the world through their actions.
As the hadith mentions:
Narrated Abu Sa'id Al-Khudri:
Once Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) went out to the Musalla (to offer the prayer) of Eid-al-Adha or Eid-al-Fitr. He passed by the women and said, "O women! Give alms, as I have seen that the majority of the dwellers of Hell-fire were you (women)."
They asked, "Why is it so, O Allah's Messenger (ﷺ)?"
He replied: "You curse frequently and are ungrateful to your husbands. I have not seen anyone more deficient in intelligence and religion than you. A cautious, sensible man could be led astray by some of you."
The women asked, "O Allah's Messenger (ﷺ)! What is deficient in our intelligence and religion?"
He said: "Is not the evidence of two women equal to the witness of one man?"
They replied in the affirmative.
He said: "This is the deficiency in her intelligence. Isn't it true that a woman can neither pray nor fast during her menses?"
The women replied in the affirmative.
He said: "This is the deficiency in her religion."

Key Lessons:
1. A Righteous Woman Is Not a Fitna
A woman who is committed to Allah, obedient to the Prophet, avoids forbidden things, and devotes herself to Allah is truly a righteous servant of Allah. Alhamdulillah.
2. Not Every Woman Is a Fitna
Only those are who disobey Allah’s commandments.
3. When Is a Woman Considered a Fitna?
When she disobeys Allah and His Messenger.
4. The Escalating Fitna in Society Today
What kind of fitna?
Isn't it known that 90% of the fitna is attributed to women?
What is this fitna?
The fitna of love and affection has become common in today’s society. Women are flaunting their adornments, and unfortunately:
Men are falling into their trap.
Some are getting ruined themselves, while others are being exploited.
These are the ones who surrender themselves to their desires and become deserving of Hell. But there are also those who, by risking their lives, save themselves from these fitnas and become deserving of Paradise.
Do you know the importance of youth?
Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) said:
"On the Day of Judgment, the one who will be under the shade of Allah’s Throne will be the one who, in their youth, despite having the strength to indulge in immorality, remained obedient to Allah."
In their youth, they worshipped Allah, and such a person will be under the shade of Allah’s Throne on the Day of Judgment.
Today, evil is targeting the youth. Every fitna is aimed at them, and at every step, they are being invited to sin. We must all obey the commands of Allah.

Here are some tips as per Quran and hadith:
1. Avoid Being Alone with Non-Mahram Women
Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) said:
"A man is not alone with a woman, but the third of them is Shaitan (Satan)."
(Reference: Jami at-Tirmidhi 2165)
2. Repentance Is Accepted When Done Timely
إِنَّمَا ٱلتَّوْبَةُ عَلَى ٱللَّهِ لِلَّذِينَ يَعْمَلُونَ ٱلسُّوٓءَ بِجَهَـٰلَةٍۢ ثُمَّ يَتُوبُونَ مِن قَرِيبٍۢ فَأُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ يَتُوبُ ٱللَّهُ عَلَيْهِمْ ۗ وَكَانَ ٱللَّهُ عَلِيمًا حَكِيمًۭا ١٧
Allah only accepts the repentance of those who commit evil ignorantly ˹or recklessly˺ then repent soon after[1]—Allah will pardon them. And Allah is All-Knowing, All-Wise.
A person’s repentance will be accepted as long as they repent any time before their death. But one should not procrastinate because they do not know when they will die.
وَلَيْسَتِ ٱلتَّوْبَةُ لِلَّذِينَ يَعْمَلُونَ ٱلسَّيِّـَٔاتِ حَتَّىٰٓ إِذَا حَضَرَ أَحَدَهُمُ ٱلْمَوْتُ قَالَ إِنِّى تُبْتُ ٱلْـَٔـٰنَ وَلَا ٱلَّذِينَ يَمُوتُونَ وَهُمْ كُفَّارٌ ۚ أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ أَعْتَدْنَا لَهُمْ عَذَابًا أَلِيمًۭا ١٨
However, repentance is not accepted from those who knowingly persist in sin until they start dying, and then cry, “Now I repent!” nor those who die as disbelievers. For them We have prepared a painful punishment.

3. Lower Your Gaze and Guard Your Modesty

4. Staying at Home Brings a Woman Closer to Allah
Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) said:
"When a woman goes out of her home, Shaitan beautifies her in the eyes of men. But when she stays at home, she is closer to Alla
h."
(Reference: Al-Silsilah As-Saheehah 2001)
Conclusion
The speech highlights the importance of self-discipline and adhering to Islamic principles to overcome trials. Women who align themselves with Allah’s commandments are a blessing, not a fitna. Both men and women should strive to protect their hearts, remain vigilant against modern temptations, and seek Allah’s guidance. Through repentance, modesty, and self-restraint, the Muslim Ummah can uphold moral integrity and draw closer to Allah’s mercy.
اللهم مُصَرِّفَ الْقُلُوْبِ صَرِّفْ قُلُوْبَنَا عَلَى طَاعتِكَ
O Allah! Controller of the hearts, direct our hearts to Your obedience
